The Sunflower and The Cashier

Leading up to year 2026, I had decided that I was going to infuse the year with purpose. I had chosen theme words (expansion, expression, and dedication), a symbol (pomegranate), and colour (purple). I also did what most people do, which is set up goals and intentions for the year ahead. What I found, was that, as I moved through the first couple weeks, every decision I made was based on these things I had decided were my focus.

            I sought out every possible opportunity to express myself creatively, as well as speak up for myself where typically I would stay silent. I also knew that I would have to look at every opportunity that came up as a change to grow or expand my world. The small world I had fallen into, was slowly starting to open. As someone said to me, I was stepping out of my cocoon phase and ready to enter the world. I find the cocoon phase extremely annoying, as it feels like this time where I am cut off from the rest of the world as time moves on and everyone goes about their usual days. As for dedication, I knew that I was going to have to show up for things, regardless of how I was feeling. This meant, both for me and others.

            As for the pomegranate, I chose it due to its symbolism in Greek mythology and the story of Persephone. It is also a symbol of fertility. What that word means to me as I move through this year, is that everything I encounter is fertile ground for new ideas and experiences. And the colour purple; well, I ended up buying a lot of stuff in the colour purple when given the option.

            Beginning the year with this level of intention, means these things are always percolating in my subconscious. It makes me feel like a more active participant in my own life.
